Cookie Policy
In short: we use a small number of essential cookies so that angliaonline.com works, including keeping your placement test answers together and keeping teachers signed in. We only use analytics or other optional cookies if you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
1. About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Anglia Examination Syndicate Ltd, trading as Anglia Examinations ("Anglia", "we", "us", "our"), uses cookies and similar technologies on www.angliaonline.com (the "website"). Anglia Examinations is part of Chichester College Group.
The website provides our free online English placement test, lets teachers book placement tests for their classes and view their students' results, and lets registered users download Anglia past papers.
Please read this policy together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use personal data, and our Website Terms and Conditions.
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, and to give information to the owners of the site.
Websites can also use similar technologies, such as local storage in your browser, session storage and tracking pixels. In this policy we use the word "cookies" to cover all of these.
Session and persistent cookies
- Session cookies are temporary. They are deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies stay on your device for a set period, or until you delete them.
First-party and third-party cookies
- First-party cookies are set by angliaonline.com.
- Third-party cookies are set by another organisation whose service we use on the website, for example Google Analytics or an embedded video player.
3. How we use cookies
We group the cookies on our website into the categories below. Apart from strictly necessary cookies, we will not set any cookies unless you have given your consent.
| Category | What these cookies do | Your consent |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Make the website work. They keep the placement test running from start to finish, keep you signed in to your account, keep the website secure and remember your cookie choices. | Always on. These cannot be switched off because the website would not work without them. |
| Functional | Remember choices you make, such as settings or preferences, to give you a better experience. | Only with your consent. |
| Analytics | Help us understand how people use the website, for example which pages are visited most and where people leave, so that we can improve it. The information is reported in aggregate. | Only with your consent. |
| Embedded content | Some pages may include content from other websites, such as videos. These providers may set their own cookies when the content loads. | Only with your consent. The content will not load until you allow it. |
We do not use cookies on angliaonline.com for advertising, and we do not sell information collected through cookies.
4. Cookies and the placement test
Many people who take our placement test are students, and some are under 18. We have designed the test so that it relies only on strictly necessary cookies:
- Students can take a test without creating an account. A session cookie keeps their answers together as they move from question to question, and is deleted when the browser is closed.
- Test answers and results are stored securely on our servers, not in cookies on your device.
- Teachers who sign in to book class tests and view results use a session cookie that keeps them signed in.
- We do not use cookies to profile students or to show them advertising.
If you block all cookies in your browser, including strictly necessary ones, the placement test and your account will not work properly.
5. Your cookie choices
When you first visit the website, a cookie banner will ask whether you accept optional cookies. You can:
- Accept all optional cookies;
- Reject all optional cookies, in which case only strictly necessary cookies will be used; or
- Manage settings to choose which categories you allow.
Rejecting optional cookies is as easy as accepting them, and it will not stop you using the placement test or any other part of the website.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by selecting Cookie settings in the footer of any page. We will ask for your consent again at least every 12 months, or sooner if we make significant changes to the cookies we use.
If you contact us about your consent, please tell us the date you gave or changed it.
6. Cookies we use

7. Managing cookies in your browser
As well as using our cookie settings, you can control cookies through your browser. Most browsers let you see which cookies are stored, delete them, and block cookies from some or all websites. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of our website will not work.

- We use strictly necessary cookies because they are essential to provide the service you have asked for.
- We use all other cookies only on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add or change a service on the website. The date at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated. If we start using a new type of optional cookie, we will ask for your consent before we set it.
