The test at a glance

  • 35 minutes, about
  • 3 short parts
  • £0 to take, no account needed

How it works

  1. Answer the questionsGrammar, vocabulary, reading and listening.
  2. The test adapts to youWhat you are asked next depends on how you are doing, so the second and third parts are picked to suit you.
  3. Keep going when it feels hardSome questions will feel hard. That is how the test finds your level, and nobody is expected to answer everything.

What you get at the end

  • Your Anglia level, from First Step to Masters
  • What that is on the Common European Framework, from below A1 to C2
  • How you did in each of the four skills, so you know where to put your effort
  • Which Anglia exam to work towards

This is a guide to where to start studying, not an exam. There is no pass or fail, and your result is not a qualification.

Start the test

Three questions, then you begin. We ask for as little as possible.

Just your first name, so we can address your result. We do not ask for your surname.
This tells us which version of an exam to recommend. At the lower levels Anglia has one version written for children and another written for older learners.
This helps us point you to your nearest Anglia centre.

Before you begin

  • Give yourself about 35 minutes. Each part is timed, so it is better not to start if you may be interrupted.
  • You will need sound. Headphones are better if you are not somewhere quiet.
  • Answer on your own. A result that is not yours is no use to you.
  • If a part feels too hard, keep going. The test is meant to find the edge of what you can do.
